On the WordPress website the list of requirements of hosting WordPress are reduced to two technical specifications, they are: -

1 – PHP version 4.3 or greater

2 – MySQL version 4.0 or greater

Apache or LightSpeed is also recommended.

Believe me, for a fully functioning feature filled script like WordPress that is very light and easy to meet, most hosts these days will meet the technical requirements of
WordPress. You should also be looking for a host that that has servers with a very high uptime and performs well. If you have hosted a website before you will know that the technical specs of the webhost is just one small part of the jigsaw.

From a none technical viewpoint you should be looking for a host that offers excellent customer service and technical support.
Over the years I have used many hosts but the one that I host with now and will do for many years ahead I’m sure is HostGator. I have hosted with HostGator for over
2 years now and I have never once noticed that my site is unavailable, they quote a 99.9% uptime guarantee, 24/7 support and also a 45-day money back guarantee, beat that!!!

Hostgator have also ‘gone green’ and all HostGator shared and reseller servers are now 130% wind powered. HostGator are not just neutralizing their environmental impact they are reversing it.

Wordpress and Website Hosting
My own recommendation is HostGator,
however the Wordpress team recommends the following webhosts: -
